Overall a great app for our architectural site visits. Unfortunately, the annotation tools are very limited. It would be great to be able to use the pen to make annotations and sketches on additional layers. The current annotations and the location markers are cumbersome.
With the newest update, dropping pins has gotten a lot more annoying. Yes, it was a pain if you accidentally dropped a pin and needed to delete it, but it’s way worse now that you have to hit the little save button every single time. Also with the newest update, if you click on a tracked line and pull up to see the data, it tells you two different distances. Like this one- I click it, it says 1.84 miles. I pull up the screen to see data and it says 2.28 miles. I scroll down to the Show Graph section, and it says 1.84 miles. What is the real distance? There’s no explanation. When drawing line or polygon, you used to be able to tap anywhere on the screen to make a segment. That was nice. It was a couple updates ago but I’d still like to see it come back to that. Finally, I don’t believe the airdrop issue has been fixed either. If you airdrop a map, it no longer goes directly into the app, but into your files where you then have to open it in Avenza. I know nobody likes change and people will always complain, but the dropping pins change really is annoying.
Last update is giving wrong altitude on place marks please fix it I really need it for my job! It’s why I’m paying for it thank you !!
Love the river maps. You can find exactly where you are on a remote river at all times!
The app used to be near perfect but the new update has made it 3x more steps to collect a data point. I contacted support to see if there were options to make it more streamlined like it used to be but there is not and they also said there are no plans to go back to how it was. As someone who collects hundreds and hundreds of data points per week, I will be searching for an alternative to Avenza.
While I like the ability to plan a route (on Waze or Google Maps, for example), it would be AWESOME to be able to have a “real” roadmap (especially with geolocation) on my dashboard via Apple CarPlay?
I have been using this app for years and loved it. The new update has introduced so many bugs and glitches that the app is almost unusable now. Every time I try to name a place mark the app automatically erases my work. It doesn’t save when I label things. The buttons are in a position that they get pressed accidentally where they didn’t before and it’s very frustrating.
Loved this app experience during and with the amazing group of outdoors enthusiasts and nature loving hikers in eddyville last weeks Lusk creek canyon hike. Impressive technology that I felt relieved to have.
I use and love Avenza and have been using and loving it for a few years now. However, this most recent update has updated things that did not need changed and now the interface is a crapshoot. The navigation is all sorts of funky, and naming layers is also changed and become a problem. Please Fix these things/return it to the way it used to be please. Especially the navigation. I’m about ready to just use Onx due to how annoying Avenza is now.
You can’t paste coordinates into the map anymore. They probably removed this so that I would pay for the pro version. Thanks for removing features.
I love this app so far. Very easy to use and works great. Doesn’t matter if you have service or no service, it will allways tell you where you’re at.
Up until now, works flawlessly. Now when I open a map in Maine gazette, the app freezes!
Spent 30 min downloading the app, and signing up for an account through several hoops. Scanned the QR code for the map I wanted and got the message it didn’t exist.
I don’t review apps often, but I feel this is worth the kudos. The new create circle tool is wicked! It helps me easily communicate to clients in the field how big of an n sized area would be for an opening/harvest area. A buffer track tool would be cool to have. Input any line on the map, choose buffer distance, and units.
I had a collection of free and purchased map on this app a few years ago. An update deleted all but a few, only those currently available. I rebuilt the library to about half the number. This recent updated made four of them obsolete and unusable. My library is now just a few I have to rebuild or find other sources of the maps. Don't use it app if you want to keep your maps.
Great trail maps . Saved our behind several times
Love LOVE this app! Have used it on my phone and iPad when we are in the UTV exploring. Works offline when we have no service. Highly recommend getting the app and buying the trails. It's worth it! Plus it supports the parks. No brainer. Thank you!
Lots of maps to choose from! Great app and makes it easy to view different parks and areas to explore. Many maps are free too
BOught a Ipad Mini 65 bucks, has to have cell phone setup to work but not activated. You can buy these maps for a couple bucks. I am Into less then 80 bucks and looks great and can control more of your car utv sxs through the iPad
I use this app while on prescribed fire, wildfire, fuels reduction projects, and general scouting assignments. A great tool to help paint a picture of what landscapes look lime.
Updating my below review because another annoying feature is that when you sort your maps by distance it isn’t accurate. You’d think that the map that you’re currently on would be first when sorted that way. But it isn’t. In fact, I often have maps that are hundreds of miles from me and in another state showing up before the actual map I’m on. Overall I love this app. When I'm in a park I use it over All Trails. I like that the points of interest you'd find on the paper maps for these places are included. The search though isn't very good. I'll go to the store. Enter a specific State Park. The app will even autofill the State Park for me. But then, that park's maps will be like the 20th result. Makes no sense.
Amazing app I love it for work
Perfect for Search and Rescue
I would give it a higher rating if you could print your maps
I can’t down load maps or preview them. Used this app a couple years ago and it was great but now nothing works.
I’ve been using this app for years every day for work and it’s always been spot on
Great app. Used it a lot in the Big Horn National Forest. Would like to see a function to record notes on the tracking function. Thanks for a great app!
Maps are easy to read. High quality. And best of all, you can map out your ride trail-to-trail. No other map can do that, that I’ve tried. Once ride is mapped out, you have distance traveling, which helps with planning destinations. It’s easy to follow and tracks your ride.
Florida wildlife makes you use this app to know your boundaries for hunting. Which makes sense that the government is involved. This is the worst app I’ve ever used. Absolute garbage.
Tried them all and the only one we use now for trail riding.
This app is widely used by Cal Fire, which is weird because it only works on some peoples phones and not others.
Shows exact location with all the fire map info. I Really love camping and I’ve been using it for backwoods camping. It’s an amazing app, will be recommending for anyone doing any sort of camping. 10 out of 10 couldn’t ask for a better free map service.
Avenza is best. I’ve been using it for YEARS! You can download free us government maps (USGS quads, USFS maps, etc). Basic mapping/GPS features like tracking, waypoints, etc. definitely download. 👍🏼
The mats are everything I expected is more I couldn’t believe how good the mats were. They were so good that we didn’t get lost no matter which way we turned we were spun around on certain places and we figured it out by using the mats. We are so happy to get mats that are so comfortable to sleep on, that’s great
Please allow the stratus to connect in this app.
Keeps you from getting lost
This is great for Forestry work. Any way we will get a version on Apple Watch?
I thought these guys were frauds for charging for maps but there are many free ones as well. The GPS location is very accurate even off cell service. Also, the route measuring and location marking are helpful as well. Definitely good to have if you are going off the grid, even if you have a Garmin (I find it easier to navigate to points of interest on a smart phone).
I think Avenza Maps works well. Good if you don’t want to use paper. It depends on the persons preference and resources.
Best app for running around on BLM NFS DOI NP land with or without a cell signal! This plus maps.me offline maps for more infrastructure type driving waypoints (bathrooms/gas) and you’re all set!!
I live the GPS feature and that most of the maps I need can be downloaded for free. Perfect for canoeing, especially in deep wilderness.
I love that I’ll it’s possible to download free maps and use them even offline. My only quibble is that finding maps from within the app is challenging. The search function doesn’t seem to be very good, generating lots of hits that are difficult to preview, and are not necessarily useful
When I go on trails, this is the go to app for me! I believe that this is one of the most amazing and most reliable apps that I have ever used as far as navigating trails without having the need for an internet connection. The only two things that I suggest is make the app compatible with Apple Watch and Apple CarPlay, I believe that would make the best offline map platform even better! 😁😁😁😁
Great place to collect maps
As someone who lives in a rural area with spotty connections on most carriers, Avenza is such a useful resource to feel confident in where I’m at.
We use this extensively for camping in Virginia State Parks. The downloads are free and it’s great for hiking and navigating around the park. I think we are on our 16th or 17th park and the App has been spot on every time!
I purchased one map with Avenza and received a charge of 4.99$ after deleting the app. The previous purchase date was for 6.8.2024. I deleted the app and TWO days later on 6.21.24 received another 4.99$ charge. I have disputed with apple.
You need this if you explore out of cell coverage!
My hand-held GPS is now obsolete! This app works with the satellite GPS chip in your phone to allow easy and reliable GPS navigation while offline. No cell service needed. I put my phone in airplane mode to put it to the test, and it totally works. You can download USGS topos to use off line for free, and many helpful maps are available to purchase as well. This app is the best!!
