Avenza Maps: Offline Mapping App Reviews

This is a great app that makes so many maps available in perfect display. Dont rely on it in back country. I dont know how it could be any better.

Pins no longer show up in different colours in google earth. No longer able to switch between compass navigation and North being top of map easily. No longer exports embedded photos easily to google earth. What were you guys thinking??? Serious downgrade, I wish I could go back to the old version.

I have to agree with previous reviewer. They have lost functionality. Dont see a lot of planning or testing from these guys. I can only hope they can restore some of the functionality they had under this new architecture. I am not sure they know where there going. Of critical importance -if you export data then try and import that data you will lose you first item of data. Not sure how they can charge for a commercial license when there program losses data.

The developers got this one right on the money - does exactly what is advertised, and the app is very robust. Invest the 15 minutes to read their "getting started". One hint on producing your own geo-referenced pdf files - Global Mapper is a very capable and much less expensive option than some of the programs recommended in the app description. Easy to locate and download maps from the included map store.

Use it all the time while hiking. Great app.

This update was a sneaky trick. It would have been nice to have received a little warning that this app which we have been using as a tool for data collection is no longer accessible. Glitch glitch left hanging

Updated to the latest. Now it wont even open. Please fix this problem. Love your app otherwise.

The automatic update move to a subscription model is a flagrant FU to long time avenza supporters. Why not adds or a purchase model? At 169$ and 38$ per year this is just gross customer service.

I dont understand why so many people are complaining about the subscription fee. I dont have custom maps to load and find a few decent free maps in my area. The app is very useful to me when I want to simple check the neighbourhood.

Was a great app to use with work, that is until they made the mandatory update and ruined it.

Great program until they made it pay to use. My entire forestry program used to use it, but now you can only have three maps at a time unless you want to pay $170/year. Essentially useless now, thanks a lot.

Thx guys. Left me hanging out in the bush today. Little did I know there was an update that rendered the app utterly useless unless youre one of the few who have a fortune to shell out for a ridiculously overpriced annual fee. Ive let as many people as I can know NOT to update. Will be working with app developers to make a better solution WITHOUT the elitist buy in.

It glitches because your old version has more than three maps - if you are at that stage you have lost all your information. Clear your old version before you upgrade and it should work fine. Its a great tool and worth the subscription.

Was great when providing harvesters with license maps. No one is interested in paying a subscription fee. You have lost many supporters with this money grab.

As as user with over 200$ worth of purchased maps from Avenza mapstore, I am extremely disappointed with this latest version that claims to be a "minor patch" and pretty much renders this app useless unless you fork over 130$ annually for a "pro" version. Time to start looking for an alternate app.

Was happy with this app before the fees. The subscription is like being blackmailed to use your own maps. Look elsewhere

You will loose the ability to add in free maps. Looks like you need to subscribe to a pricey yearly service to get what you used to get for free.

Please change the current position dot symbol to an aircraft etc. Because ıt is not useful for understanding the current heading!!! Thanks

If you are a pilot ,this app will help you for navigation with DOD publication. For new version i think app should have gps track like compass track.

Hey guys, you are a big and famous GIS company - are you sure you are doing the right thing by selling PDFs for these money? Maybe its time to make the first ever app with the specific mobile thematic maps? Make use of 11 different taps, of hight definition screens, interactions with maps?
