Avenza Maps: Offline Mapping App Reviews

Great application the offline use is ideal when traveling abroad and hiking. if you need high res maps offline this is the best. Geolocalization is very good even in poor weather conditions and regions not covered by cellular network. The price of the maps is often lower than that of the respective printed map . Unfortunately many areas are poorly covered....I hope other map producers will join this program soon.

The inability to select MGRS as my default setting renders this app nearly useless to me. I rarely used its previous version, but when I did, with the one map I have on it, MGRS was a critical feature to make the app worth keeping

3.0 removes MGRS and makes it part of the PRO version. If you use MGRS/UTM, dont update to 3.0 unless you want to pay for those features.

Features have been removed from the free version, only three of your own maps can be loaded. Avoid!

So with the new update they limit you to keeping only 3 of your own maps on the free app, when it used to be unlimited!! Thanks for ruining a great app avenza!!! Oh but dont worry if you want to have more than 3 of your own maps then just pay for a subscription that costs 130 bucks a year! What a load of crap!!

Sell an app with new profit paradigm on its own merits. Dont auto upgrade happy users to app lockdown!

The app itsef is okay, however I am irratated by the move to a subscription model. Seriously, in order to import my own maps I am limited to 3 maps?!? In order to import more than 3 maps I must purchase a subscription. What happens if I let the subscription lapse, do I get the great option of paying more money to access my maps? I can see if there is some online service that I am making use of for some added benefit. In this case I am simply trying to use my map that is stored on my phone. There is nothing about this functionality that should be limited or expire. My take is that this is simply an act of greed by Avenza. Should a better option come along that is where I will be headed. This update is nothing more than limiting functionality that I had previously and putting an ad in my face to get to the import feature. Not a good move if you ask me.

The new version no longer offers MGRS support. Well it does, but fir $129.00 PER YEAR! Are you serious? I dont mind paying for features and apps, but no thanks. If I cant figure out how to downgrade this app to the old version, then I will have to uninstall it and use alternatives that use MGRS on top of google maps. Not ideal for what I need, but about $126.00 cheaper!!!

This update removes basic functionality, e.g. MGRS and created a PRO option for a nominal fee. Such a disappointment!

The previous versions allowed you to select MGRS as your default display format. Now in order to select that feature you have to upgrade to pro and pay a yearly subscription fee. Definitely not worth it. The asking yearly subscription fee is ridiculous for the amount of features the app offers. Was a okay app at best before, and now its just crap. I will be looking for another app to replace this one.

They ruined the app by removing MGRS support and not allowing importing user maps anymore. The app is unusable now and they are greedy by the $129.99 price for the MGRS and user map downloads. If the price for the pro account was reasonable, we might pay but the $129.99 price is extremely excessive!!

Dont update!!! New version will only let you import 3 maps, otherwise you have to pay $130 every year!!! Way to ruin a free app that I have used every day for 3 years. Looks like its back to paper maps and a handheld GPS!!!

I used this app at work and for search and rescue. Im a volunteer for SAR... I can not afford $129.00 a year.

I used the app all the time with the MGRS feature and a geo tiff. Lat Long is worthless to me. I have paid the $29 subscription and still cannot get MGRS. I will not pay $129 just to get MGRS. Bring back the MGRS feature or this app is worthless to me. You already have my $29 bucks. What a disappointment!

I use this app as a reference when flying, the only people who use MGRS are the military, what kind of dick move is it to charge for that. I wish I could give 00000000 stars I already paid once for the app.

Used to use and recommend this app to a lot of the guys I work with in the military. But with MGRS now being a paid feature, and at such a ridiculous rate, Ill be deleting.

Upgrade the app, lose your layers. Lose your pins. Lose your searches. Sure, you can get back previous purchases but all the pins you spent time adding...GONE. Stupid update, thoughtless developers.

Do not upgrade! Used to love this app and used to use it all the time. I hate it now that they removed the MGRS option and reduced a lot of the other options. There is no way Im paying $130 annually for an app I use for hiking. The pro option is clearly for some sort of overpriced government contract and the regular users have just been forgotten about. Ill just have to find something else... thanks Avenza. Enjoy your greed.
